EverBag Quick Tips

EverBag FAQ

What are the 6 free gifts?

The 6 free gifts are a set of silicone stretch lids, each in a different size to fit a variety of bowls, pots, cans, cups, and other containers.

They create an airtight seal to keep your food fresh, and are a reusable, eco-friendly replacement for plastic wrap and disposable lids. Simply stretch them over any container and they'll grip tight to lock in freshness.

What is platinum silicone?

EverBags containers are made from platinum-cured food-grade silicone ("platinum silicone" for short), the highest grade available. It is food safe, microwave safe, freezer safe, and dishwasher safe.

Are EverBags made from Food Grade Silicone?

Yes. In fact, EverBags are made from Platinum Grade Silicone, the highest-quality Food Grade Silicone available. You can rest easy knowing that EverBags containers do not contain fillers that could leach into your food.

Why are EverBags better than plastic for your health?

Traditional plastic containers are petroleum based and can contain harmful chemicals. Because EverBags containers are made from platinum silicone, it is free of BPA, lead, phthalates and PVC. It is also hypoallergenic.

Why are EverBags better for the environment?

EverBags containers are built to last and can potentially be used thousands of times replacing disposable plastic bags and containers which will reduce waste.

Are EverBags dishwasher safe?

Yes! They were designed for the dishwasher, so all EverBags containers have large rounded corners for easy cleaning. Most importantly, all EverBags containers stay open for better cleaning and drying! They are top or bottom rack safe.

For dishwasher detergents, It is best to choose dishwasher soap or detergents that do not contain essential oils, antibacterial agents or moisturizers. Gentler, more natural dishwasher soap/detergents work best to clean EverBags containers, especially ones that are scent free.

My EverBags taste like soap after washing them in the dishwasher. Are they ruined?

Not at all! This is a common issue and easy to fix. The soap taste is simply residue from your dishwasher detergent, and your EverBags containers are perfectly fine. To remove the soapy taste and smell, try the following steps:

  1. Rinse thoroughly with warm water immediately after removing from the dishwasher.
  2. Make a baking soda paste by mixing baking soda with a small amount of water, rub it all over the inside and outside of your EverBags container, and let it sit for 4 hours.
  3. Rinse well and hand wash with a small amount of mild, scent-free dish soap and warm water.
  4. Air dry completely before use.

To prevent this from happening in the future, we recommend using a gentle, scent-free dishwasher detergent that does not contain essential oils, antibacterial agents, or moisturizers. Natural, fragrance-free detergents work best for cleaning EverBags containers.

Can I microwave in EverBags containers?

Yes! EverBags containers are completely microwave safe. And unlike plastics, they don't contain BPA, lead, phthalates or PVC that can leach into your food when heated. EverBags containers won't warp or melt in the microwave. Remember to open a corner before microwaving and be careful when contents are hot!

Are EverBags freezer safe?

Yes, EverBags containers are completely freezer safe. Our thick silicone will not get brittle from freezing it frequently. Unlike plastic baggies, EverBags containers are a one-piece design that won't tear or burst in the freezer.

Is EverBag oven safe?

We don't recommend cooking food in EverBag in the oven — while platinum silicone is extremely temperature resistant (up to 420° F or 215°C), the oven isn't a recommended use case for food preparation.

However, there is one great oven hack our customers love — placing an empty EverBag in a low-heat oven is a great way to eliminate stubborn odors. The heat helps release any lingering smells without damaging the bag, leaving it fresh and ready to use again.

Will EverBags stain?

Most foods will not stain your EverBags containers. There are a few foods, however, which can stain pure silicone such as tomato sauce, curries, watermelon, cooked carrots and other red/orange foods.

Try rubbing with a baking soda and water mixture and let sit for 4 hours. Rinse well and then wash as usual.

You can also put them in direct sunlight for a few hours to naturally sun bleach stains (really!).

Will EverBags containers retain odors?

Food grade silicone is nonporous which inhibits bacterial growth and odors. However, some foods or dishwasher detergents can retain an odor.

For dishwasher detergents, It is best to choose dishwasher soap or detergents that do not contain essential oils, antibacterial agents or moisturizers. Gentler, more natural dishwasher soap/detergents work best to clean EverBags containers, especially ones that are scent free.

For food odors, try rubbing with a baking soda and water mixture and let sit for 4 hours. Rinse well and then wash as usual.

You can also try baking them in the oven on a baking sheet for eight minutes at 350 °F (176° C). Be sure to let your bag cool and use an oven mitt to handle your bags.

Are EverBags containers air-tight?

EverBags containers seal differently than traditional plastic zippered baggies which have tiny, hard, flat plastic zippers. EverBags containers have large, soft, rounded zippers that flex. Because of this, your containers may, at times, leak a small amount of air if squeezed. In addition, once sealed, because of the pull of the wide, rounded opening, air will sometimes want to seep back in. If so, the small amount of air in your EverBags will act like air trapped in a typical lidded container.

Are EverBags containers leak-proof?

EverBags containers are designed to hold liquids upright in a kitchen environment. When kept upright, EverBags containers are completely leak proof. EverBags containers were never designed, for instance, to fill with water and hold upside down or for taking liquids on the go.

Will sealed EverBags containers spill if they are knocked over?

In general, no. Because of the flexibility of silicone, they are durable and malleable when sealed. However, as stated in this FAQ, we recommend liquids be kept upright to be safe.

Can I sous vide in EverBags containers?

We do not recommend completely submerging EverBags containers in water for sous vide or other applications. Due to the flexible zipper seal, some water may, at times, seep into a fully submerged bag. However, EverBags containers are great for steaming and cooking where the zipper seal may fully or partially be left open while heating.
